Although David Hudson was the first to get information about Orbitally Rarranged Monoatomic Elements (ORMEs,) white powder of gold, high-spin and m-state elements into the public domain, he was not the only one looking into this subject. (Interestingly and possibly coincidentally, ‘ormes’ is the Hebrew word for the Tree of Life, a central aspect of the Jewish Kabbalah.) Following a series of public lectures during the 1990s, interest in Hudson’s discoveries began to grow. With Hudson forced to withdraw from the public arena due to heart problems, the baton was picked up by Barry Carter.

But there was much more than merely a name change. Although Hudson had talked about white powder of gold and other precious m-state elements having been extracted from ore, it was not long before molecular science revealed that such high-spin elements existed in all organic matter. Hot on the heels of this revelation came the discovery that ‘all organic matter’ included people, as cellular biologists revealed the superconductive processes through which cells communicate.

The ten elements (cobalt, nickel, copper, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, silver, osmium, iridium, platinum, gold and mercury) that Hudson had identified as being capable of transformation into different atomic states were found to already exist -- in everything. Invisible, barely detectable but vibrant with superconductive energy, these m-state materials had been there all the time. They were known metallic elements but in a different atomic state. In this non-metallic state they were possessed of superconductivity revealed in an anomalous response to gravity, superfluidity and the ability to ‘tunnel’ through solid objects. What is more, according to Hudson’s discoveries, these elements naturally existing in an m-state condition could be more than 10,000 times more abundant than their metallic counterparts.

It is very hard to draw a straight historical line between Hudson’s work and the current ORMUS phenomenon. But that is the nature of real history -- it is mostly a collection of pops, flashes and bangs rather than the single explosive moment that historians often make it. There will be few portraits in the ORMUS Hall of Fame -- David Hudson will be there and Barry Carter. If we knew what he looked like the Essene would be there and Jim, the guy who started this all off for Mr Carter. But that’s about it. There will be no portraits of the hundreds of kitchen sink chemists, alchemists and metaphysicians who, under the auspices of Barry Carter, made ORMUS what it is today. Their contribution has been inestimable, invaluable and generous and they are the unsung heroes in this saga.

Although the ORMUS movement is led by a triumvirate of key figures, it is Barry Carter who has made the largest contribution to creating the ORMUS culture. Inspired and intrigued by the experiences of his near-genius pal, Jim, he took the steps necessary to learn the processes for creating the white powder of m-state elements and he made them public. Through his vast, information-packed web site (click here to go there) and his extremely active forums, he has revealed new aspects of the ORMUS phenomenon and allowed others to make their own contribution. It has been and remains Barry Carter who has been the prime mover within the ORMUS movement. Barry Carter is, indeed, the ORMUS Guru.

Of course, none of that explains how the ORMUS phenomenon grew to its current state of vigour and intelligence. And, indeed, it is in the (not 'the' more my) intelligence department that the telling of this tale breaks down. For the ORMUS phenomenon is a deeply scientific one full of sub-atomic bonding and deep quantum physics. So, on the assumption that few of my readers aspire to be mollecular physicists, I will try to skip the science and just go for the sensationalism. And it is pretty sensational.

Step forward Mr Carter. It was in the 1970s that Barry Carter met a gentleman named Jim. Brought together by a common interest in speakers and hi-fi, Barry describes Jim as ‘very clearly a genius.’ They stayed in touch and in the mid-1980s, Jim moved closer to Barry’s home and they started to spend a lot more time together. At that time Jim was working on medical technologies and was attending a lot of trade shows. At one of these he noticed that some very nasty chemicals were used when sterilizing medical instruments. Jim felt that he could come up with a system that sterilized the instruments better, quicker, cheaper and with less toxic residue using an ozone generator. Back home Jim built his ozone generator and, as predicted, it worked extremely well. So well, in fact, that Barry and Jim started to think about other uses to which they could put it.

A locally-involved environmental activist, Barry, who was working with Jim on the ozone generator at this point, had an idea. He was currently trying to stop a couple of waste disposal companies who wished to burn toxic waste at a local cement plant. Among the materials intended for destruction at the cement plant were PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) transformers containing an extremely toxic oil-like liquid, the use of which was banned in the USA in 1979. Barry suggested trying the ozone generator on PCB oils. It worked like a dream. Unlike incineration, which leaves a very nasty toxic residue, the PCBs passed through the ozone generator leaving only a plastic disk and USP grade oil. ‘Frisbees and baby oil out of toxic waste,’ as Barry puts it. It couldn’t have been better.

Next Barry turned his mind to mining waste. Living in Eastern Oregon there were many mining operations in the area all producing tons of highly toxic liquid cyanide waste that would leech into rivers killing fish and birds. Interested in pursuing this idea, Jim took his ozone generator to the US Bureau of Mines in Colorado for testing. Unimpressed by the size of his machine and pessimistic about the results he could achieve, they went ahead with the tests. Starting with just a bucket of waste-water, Jim’s machine was done in few minutes. When the water was tested it met federal drinking water standards on all but two counts. A little pH adjustment rectified that problem. The waste-water had oxidized and all the toxic metals had dropped out of the solution.

With the test an impressive success, Jim decided to try out his machine on a real mining operation. He set up a system with an oxygen tank feeding into an ozone generator that bubbled the gas into a contact tank full of toxic mine waste-water. Extending out of this tank there was a pipe linked by a coupler to a longer pipe that led to an inverted sprinkler above a large column filled with charcoal briquettes. Beneath the column there was a stock tank with a grounding wire and rod driven into the earth.

The system worked very well but somewhere there was a lot of extra electricity being generated and no one could figure out from where. The grounding wire burnt out so regularly that it was eventually replaced by a finger-wide cable.

There were other strange things occurring. The toxic water contained lead, arsenic, traces of precious metals, ozone, organic material and several other particles. This water was filtered through the column of charcoal briquettes. When the briquettes were cracked open they were found to contain fibres of gold though none showed external evidence of this.

Another enigma was the viscous, mucus-like substance that would accumulate in the collection tank at the base of the filtering chamber. This had some interesting properties. If dried out in the sun it would disappear in a flash of light and if dried in the dark it would move away from human touch, floating above the hand that tried to grasp it. Jim called this ‘fly ash’ because it would literally fly away if you tried to touch it. The ‘ash’ was a white powder.
